IRCDL 2020

16th Italian Research Conference on Digital Libraries (https://kdde.di.uniba.it/ircdl20/), 30-31 January 2020 – Bari, Italy

Since 2005, the Italian Research Conference on Digital Libraries has served as an important national forum focused on digital libraries and associated technical, practical, and social issues. IRCDL encompasses the many meanings of the term “digital libraries”, including new forms of information institutions; operational information systems with all manner of digital content; new means of selecting, collecting, organizing, and distributing digital content; and theoretical models of information media, including document genres and electronic publishing. An algorithm discovers new correlations between genes in human beings

Four researchers have developed an algorithm that discovers new correlations between genes in human beings. Paolo Mignone, Gianvito Pio, Michelangelo Ceci of KDDE research group and Domenica D’Elia of “Institute of biomedical technologies (CNR)” worked together in order to develop an algorithm which exploits transfer learning techniques in order to select the available knowledge derived from other organisms and transfer such knowledge to the human beings.

First International Workshop on Machine Learning for Cybersecurity (MLCS 2019)

First International Workshop on Machine Learning for Cybersecurity (MLCS 2019) co-located with ECMLPKDD 2019 (http://mlcs.lasige.di.fc.ul.pt/) will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on September 20th, 2019.

The last decade has been a critical one regarding cybersecurity, with studies estimating the cost of cybercrime to be up to 0.8 percent of the global GDP. The capability to detect, analyse, and defend against threats in (near) real-time conditions is not possible without employing machine learning techniques and big data infrastructures. This gives rise to cyberthreat intelligence and analytic solutions, such as (informed) machine learning on big data and open-source intelligence, to perceive, reason, learn, and act against cyber adversary techniques and actions. Moreover, organisations’ security analysts have to manage and protect systems and deal with the privacy and security of all personal and institutional data under their control. The aim of this workshop is to provide researchers with a forum to exchange and discuss scientific contributions, open challenges and recent achievements in machine learning and their role in the development of secure systems.
